Finding the Humor

December 15th, 2009 · No Comments · Life in General

Things have been tough around here lately. With all the diagnosing and testing on Jackson… I seem to have fallen into a negative rut – always focusing on the bad. Always comparing what he should be doing to what he is doing. It’s driving me nuts. I’ve began to feel like a nut case. I haven’t been feeling all that friendly… and I know that I’ve not been as patient and kind with my kids as I would like to be… So… I’ve decided to make a change in my life. Hopefully, it will carry over into all the lives that I touch daily. I’m going to focus on the funny. I’m going to try and find the humor in every situation and I’m going to write about it… more. I’m going to try and take at least 5 minutes every day away from our mad house and find a reason to laugh at things. God knows that these kiddos give me plenty to laugh at if I would just step back and realize they are kids and they are curious. AND that everything doesn’ t have to be perfect. Our life is really great though it’s some times hard to see through the constant “no’s” and disciplining that it takes to raise one beautiful young tweenager, a precious little girl… and one … um… Jackson!!

So far today… it’s only 835am and Jackson has already given me two funny things to be thankful for.

1. Our conversation after our shower this morning:

Me: Come on Jackson – let’s get you dressed so we can go see Lindsey. (One of his teachers)

Jackson: No – I not want to. I wanna see my Grindid.(Granddad-my dad)

Me: You want to see Granddad?

Jackson: Yes. I wanna see Lindsey tomonnow. I want Grindid today.

Me: How about we go see Lindsey today and then Granddad on Christmas at Grammy’s house?

Jackson: No.. Grindid today. Lindsey at Kimmas!

Me: Well Granddad has to work today and I already told Lindsey that you would come play at the gym with her today at 10.

Jackson: Ahhhh mommy! Hmmmmph!

Me: I know. I know.

Jackson: Ok. Lindsey has canee(candy)! Canee! Canee! Candee!

2. While I was putting my make up on.. and not really paying attention to what naked Jackson was doing two feet away from me… he used our dental floss and took our tooth brushes hostage.. I’m not sure what he was doing.

And the day has only begun!!!
